This page explains how privategrade earns money, which affiliate programs we participate in, and how we keep those commercial relationships from corrupting our editorial work. The longer methodology is on our about page.

How we earn money

privategrade earns affiliate commissions when readers click a link on this site to a product we cover and sign up for a paid plan. The vendor — or, in some cases, a third-party affiliate network — pays us a one-time or recurring fee in return. You do not pay more because of this; affiliate pricing matches the vendor's standard pricing. We never accept payment in exchange for a review, a score, favourable placement, or coverage of a product, and we do not run sponsored posts.

Programs we participate in

privategrade earns commissions through the following affiliate programs:

• Proton's direct partner program (proton.me/partners) — covers Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Unlimited.
• Impact (impact.com) — for 1Password.
• pCloud's direct affiliate program (pcloud.com/affiliate) — covers pCloud Premium, Premium Plus, and the Lifetime plans.

We may add programs as our coverage expands. Any new affiliate relationship will be disclosed on this page and on every review where the relationship applies.

How we keep this honest

Our scoring rubric is fixed before we look at commission rates. Every product is scored on five dimensions — encryption and key handling, jurisdiction, business model, published audit history, and real-world usability — with weights documented on our about page. A product we earn nothing on can outrank a product that pays us well, and several already do. We disclose every commercial relationship on every review page where the relationship applies. Reviews are revisited when products change meaningfully, regardless of commission consequences.

Every affiliate link on this site is marked with rel="sponsored nofollow", as required by the FTC's Endorsement Guides and Meta's advertising policy. If you would prefer not to use our links, you can search the vendor's name and reach the same product without us earning a commission. Doing so does not change the price you pay.
